Fellow Jadavpurians,

For the past several months, Jadavpur Chemical Engineering Alumni Association (JCEAA) and Global Jadavpur University Alumni Foundation (GJUAF) have been working with the HOD of the department of Chemical Engineering Prof. Rajat Chakraborty and his staff for the Centenary celebration of the Department. We saw the dilapidated condition of the building of Chemical Engineering and alumni were saddened by it. An unprecedented team work was carried out among the University Building Maintenance team, alumni and the building rehab work has been completed in a record time for the centenary celebration program on February 25th through February 27th, 2023.

On behalf of GJUAF, Mr. Dwipen Ghosh, Director of GJUAF, had been coordinating the building rehab work with the department’s alumni group (JCEAA), several teams in Jadavpur University, and, the offices of Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Chiranjib Bhattacharjee and Finance Officer Mr. Gour Pattanayak. Mr. Ghosh spent more than two months in Kolkata to make the centenary a successful event. You would be glad to know that the event was a grand success and received numerous accolades from the dignitaries and media.

With that, we are amazed by your generosity for supporting Jadavpur University, and knowing the desire among Jadavpurians for the betterment of their alma mater. We are enthused and motivated to do more for our university. As a result, our plan for 2023 is:

We plan to support 4 - 6 departments for their need for upgrading their laboratories – similar to the Computer Laboratory at the Production Engineering Department. We are in touch with several departments across the University. Mr. Sourajit Guha is leading the effort. We welcome different departments and centers in Jadavpur to come forward and let us know if your department needs help in maintenance and operation of their laboratories.

Prof Bijoy Bhattacharya, Head of Department, Production Engineering, requested us to help the department further. We plan to raise funds for the department. Srijoy Aditya (’97 Prod E) and Shantanu De (’98 Prod E) will spearhead the group of former students of the Department. They will contact former students of the department, develop and implement a sustained program for the benefit of the Production Engineering Department. We request all former students of the Production Engineering Department to contact Srijoy and Shantanu at info@gjuaf.org.

Similar to the above concept, we are in the process of developing groups in every department. GJUAF will provide the platform and arrange for funding the projects that are dear to the former students of the department. We at GJUAF have developed a proven process from fund-raising, fund transfer, project implementation and project finance transparency with the Jadavpur University’s Finance Office. The project at the department of Production Engineering was completed in one month – an unprecedented achievement at Jadavpur University.

A new initiative is being planned for a “Student Intern at JU” program. The program will involve JU alumni professors at overseas universities, Professors and students at JU. The project will be financed by GJUAF. Students and Professors will receive stipends from GJUAF. A plan would be announced soon.

We look forward to hearing from you. We have been looking for volunteers for a variety of work which will be fulfilling and rewarding – a way of giving back to our alma mater.
