JU Alum of 1972 (ChemE) Prof. Arup K. Sengupta featured in CNN, BBC and other media outlets

Recently, Prof. Arup K. Sengupta, P.C. Rossin Professor of Lehigh University published a paper on carbon capture and climate change mitigation in Science Advances journal under Science Magazine. The title of the paper is “Direct air capture (DAC) and sequestration of CO2: Dramatic effect of coordinated Cu(II) onto a chelating weak base ion exchanger”. His team at Lehigh University has developed a novel way to capture carbon dioxide from the air and store it in the “infinite sink” of the ocean. Within 48 hours of its publication, the paper was in the press from various US and European media outlets including CNN, BBC etc. Please see the list below.

Prof. Sengupta was inducted as a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) for 'having demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society', as his homepage bio read. ‘Two of SenGupta's patents were recognized as 'Patents for Humanity' by the US Patent and Trademark Office for their global impact in benefiting marginalized communities around the world’.

Prof. Sengupta has been an avid donor to GJUAF for the betterment of Jadavpur University. He has deeply been involved for the improvement of society. We feel proud of Prof. Sengupta’s achievement. We wish him all the best for the prospect of this technology towards the benefits of our society!
